New and Improved - Generation Three

The new Generation Three Lulla Doll now comes in three colour variations, has adjustable and improved sound and also offers an improved running time of 12 hours. The battery life has now been tripled in the new model!

The new fabric used is softer and more durable, with adorable embroidered details.

Lulla now comes in a beautiful strong gift box and includes a signature calico wash bag for machine washing.

The doll can be machine washed at 40C or even 60C to kill any bacteria, after taking out the easily removable sound box from its velcro pocket.

The doll uses 2 x AA batteries. Read more about battery usage below.

Will Lulla help my baby or toddler sleep better?

The reviews of Lulla have been good overall, or we would not be selling it! Many families have reported that Lulla has made a difference both to settling and improved sleeping overnight. However there are also families who have bought Lulla and found no difference to their child’s sleep as a result of introducing Lulla.

Lulla uses white noise for soothing, along with the soft doll as a comfort item to cuddle. Both white noise and comforters are well known to help children sleep better and are two of the things we frequently recommend as part of our sleep advice and article.

BUT we are not suggesting that Lulla is a magic bullet that will miraculously improve sleep just by adding the doll to your child’s bed!  Lulla will work most effectively when you are also addressing factors leading to night waking or poor settling skills, including teaching your baby to fall asleep without help.

So yes we do think that Lulla will be a very useful addition to a sleep plan or to your bedtime routine but it is certainly not guaranteed to improve sleep if this is all you change!

Breathing and heartbeat sounds

Lulla is a sleep companion for your babies and children. It is a soft doll containing a unique sound box, playing the real-life recording of a mother’s breathing and heartbeat.

Lulla’s unique patent pending design was inspired by research on kangaroo care, the effects of heartbeat and breathing sounds, and the effects that smell, sight and touch have on babies and small children.

The Lulla Doll imitates closeness of a caregiver at rest with its soothing sounds of real heartbeat & breathing and soft touch.

Lulla’s unique design is based on scientific research that shows how closeness improves sleep, wellbeing and safety.

The Lulla now comes in three different designs with matching wash bags.

12 hour running time

The Generation Three Lulla now runs for 12 hours at a time (previously 8 hours). If your baby has Lulla running for a 2 hour nap, you can then turn it off. You will need to restart Lulla after 12 hours if you want her to continue playing.

The aim of Lulla Doll is to help babies:

  • Sleep longer
  • Fall asleep more easily & sleep for longer periods at a time *
  • Feel better
  • Experience less negative emotions and crying & decrease stress levels *
  • Be safer
  • Stabilise heartbeat and breathing *

* these are the possible benefits of closeness, heartbeat & breathing sounds and comforters according to multiple pieces of research.

What age can you use Lulla from?

Lulla can be attached to the side of a cot for younger babies. We recommend you use the attachment until at least 6 months of age.

Information about battery use:

Yes Lulla runs on batteries - 2 x AA batteries. There are a set of regular batteries included. A set of regular batteries will last approx. 300 hours, so you do need to have batteries on hand. The manufacturers recommend good quality rechargeable batteries so you are not spending a lot on replacing batteries and having to dispose of them.

A set of good quality batteries (not cheap hardware or chain store batteries) will now last for about 300 hours of Lulla sound. So this should last for about 3 weeks, if you are using Lulla for 12 hours every night and a 2-hour nap every day OR a 10-hour night sleep and two 2-hour day naps.

If you use Lulla more, such as resetting her for another 12-hour cycle overnight, then your batteries will be used even more quickly.

The NZ importer of Lulla has tested many local battery brands and the brands recommended are:

  • Alkaline: Duracell, Energiser, Ever Ready Gold  (about 300 hours use before replacing)
  • Rechargeable: Eneloop and Energiser  (About 150 hours before recharging)

More reasonably priced batteries that worked well for the price (but won’t last as long as high-quality batteries)were Sonixcell from The Warehouse.

Do not use lithium batteries – this will void any warranty

This from the creator of Lulla Doll:

Hear –  When the chest is pressed, Lulla plays a real-life recording of the breathing and heartbeat of a mother at rest. Her name is Gudrun, she is a dear friend, a mother of four and a Kundalini yoga teacher.

Look –  Babies prefer to look at something that resembles a human face. The colours of the doll were chosen for the purpose of making the doll unisex and unirace.

Touch –  The outer layer is made from soft natural cotton. The filling is made from ultra-fine microfiber that is hypoallergenic.

Smell –  The fabric of the doll can absorb smell from parents if they first keep it close to their skin before giving it to their child for extra feeling of security.

Clean and safe –  The doll is machine washable in warm water making it safer for small babies with underdeveloped immune and respiratory systems.

Warranty:

Lulla comes with a 6 month manufacturer’s warranty. Please note this is not a guarantee that you will get improved sleep, it’s a manufacturing warranty!  Any returns claims will need Lulla returned to The Sleep Store for assessment.

Reports from the manufacturer are that genuine faults are very rare with Lulla. Please ensure you read the instructions carefully before use, especially points such as that you need to hold the button down for 3 seconds to start Lulla. It does not start the instant it is touched, so that a child rolling on or cuddling Lulla doesn’t turn it off or on.

Please read the notes about battery use above. Any returns sent back to us that can be resolved with a new set of batteries will be returned to you at your cost.

Reviews

Lulla sells out in record time!
“Cooper (4 year old) loves it. He came in at 6am and said that his doll kept him safe, he woke up twice overnight but didn’t need to come and get us because it was like we were with him and he just snuggled his doll. WINNING!!!”

“The last 3 nights Amelia has only woken once and that was for a drink then went back to sleep, plus she is also sick with a cold. What an amazing doll Lulla is”

“We received the Lulla doll. I cannot thank you enough. It’s amazing my one year old went from waking every 40 mins to last night sleeping through. I feel like a human again. She basically sleeps on top of the doll and it’s working. So again my sanity and I thank you”

“Day 3 of using Lulla, and I must say I am very impressed. Amazing quality, so soft and my daughter Paige who is 9 months old has taken to her very well. She has always been a good sleeper and goes down awake. What I have found is that if she stirs a little or has a little cry, she settles and goes back to sleep and is sleeping for long periods during the day, whereas before she would wake straight up after a stir or cry. Even with her three older noisy sisters she is sleeping through. Emma x

“She usually takes much longer than under 2 mins to drop off! We’ve had continued success today I cannot rate Lulla enough. My nine month old was waking every 40 mins even with Co- sleeping and I was at my wits end and crippled with exhaustion. I purchased Lulla as a last resort thinking that we had absolutely no hope. On the first night in her cot she woke twice and the second and third night we had a baby that slept through the night. I feel like a human again thank you so much for bringing this into my life.”

“Just thought I would share my bub’s first nap with Lulla! She went down a little whiny but quickly settled and snuggled in (and I keep checking to make sure she’s not too close!). She went to sleep in her cot with Lulla, stayed asleep while I put her in the car, slept in the car, slept the whole way through a crazy loud soccer lesson in a hall and slept soundly the whole way home from soccer. That has NEVER happened!”
